Black-Footed Ferret Behavior

The black-footed ferret spends most of its life underground and comes out only at night to feed. This animal has keen senses of smell, sight and hearing. The black-footed ferret is solitary, except during the breeding season. It uses the prairie dog burrows for shelter. Over 90% of its diet consists of prairie dogs. But prairie dogs have been reduced in number. This is one of the reasons why black-footed ferrets are endangered animals. The black-footed ferret does not hibernate. Its main predators include owls, coyotes, badgers, foxes, and bobcats.
